BLOG: Top keys to victory vs. the 49ers

Finally the Panthers get a chance to avenge last year's debacle.

Things get started in the same stadium where they lost Super Bowl 50.  How do they get a 'W' this time in Santa Clara?

1) Come out fast- After listening to a lot of SF sports radio, I can tell you the stink is gone in the Bay Area. Players, coaches, fans and media all have a new attitude.  The additions of GM John Lynch, Coach Kyle Shanahan and 30 new players have changed the mindset. The Panthers need to jump put fast and kill that confidence.

2) Run the ball- This is a key to every Panther game.  Last year this team was only 20th in the NFL in yards per carry.  With McCaffrey and Stew and the improved and healthy Offensive Line, they should be able to crank up the ground game again. The 49ers were last in the NFL in run defense last year.

3) Get it to McCaffrey and Olsen in pass game- This is something they will want to do every game, but this week the matchup calls for it.  SF was 27th vs TEs and Rbs in the pass  game last year.  LB Navarro Bowman is coming off an injury and is expected to be slow in coverage.

4) Stuff the Run on Defense- The key to the Kyle Shanahan offense is the play action game.  Atlanta excelled at that last year.  If Carolina can bottle up the run (they were 6th in run defense last year) that will go a long way to slowing down the play action game as well.
