Hittin' it up with the Hitman 6/4/08

All great streaks must come to an end and THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL, the Cubs, suffered their first loss in 10 days last night. God awoke last night and stopped the juggernaut for one day. Not worried. Ted Lilly finally pitched like a number 2 starter, throwing 7 innings of 2 run baseball. After winning 9 of their last 10 games vs. the pathetic National League west, they get to face the Bums of Los Angeles. The Dodgers are coming off losing 2 of 3 to the god awful Rockies. This should be easy. Look for the Cubs to sweep the Dodgers and finish off this NL west swing at 20-3. The rest of Major League Baseball is a squirrel just trying to get a piece of the powerful Cubs pie. Like I have been saying on the show for the past two weeks, IT IS HARD WORK BEING THIS DAMN GOOD AND CONSISTENTLY WINNING ON A DAILY BASIS. This team re-kindles memories of those 1927 Yankees, the best team ever assembled until this present Cub team.

I feel for John Smoltz. Just when you thought he will go back to being a closer and dominating, he has a setback and has to shut it down for the season. When all is said and done, John Smoltz will go down as the best Atlanta Brave of all-time.

After crunching some more numbers today, which is what I do on a daily basis, bringing facts to the table, your beloved Carolina Panthers have lost 4 straight home openers and 6 of their last 9. Who do they have as their home opener this year you ask? That’s right the Monsters of the Midway, the CHICAGO BEARS. The streak will continue. Make it 5 straight as the Kyle Orton led Bears will stomp their way to a defensive victory in the ever so silent Bank of America Stadium. How un-intimidating is that stadium. Talk about lack of a home field advantage. A bunch of wine and cheesers, hanging out on a Sunday afternoon lightly clapping in the sunshine. The Bears will thump Carolina, 24-10. Hester will score once, Urlacher scores a defensive touchdown and Benson runs for 120 and a score. The Carolina run defense couldn’t stop a sumo wrestler.

So glad to see the NBA returning to it’s hay day as the Celtics and Lakers begin the NBA Finals tonight in Beantown. I like the Celts to win in 6. Too much defense being played in Boston. They will lock down Kobe and the Lakers will struggle to score 90 in any game.
